Supporting the Trails that Shape our Riding: Our Partnership with WORCA

Posted by Emily Slaco on

Mountain biking in Whistler is known around the world, but the trails that define this community didn’t appear overnight. They were built over decades through the passion, volunteerism, and vision of local riders who believed Whistler could become something special.

At the center of that story is the Whistler Off Road Cycling Association (WORCA).  Founded in 1989, WORCA was created to lobby against the pending closure of bike trails in Garibaldi Provincial Park.  Over the years they have grown to help advocate for mountain bikers, protect trail access, and support the sustainable growth of Whistler’s trail network. What began as a grassroots organization fueled by dedicated local riders has grown into one of the most respected mountain bike advocacy organizations in Canada.

Today, WORCA helps maintain and develop hundreds of kilometres of trails throughout the Whistler valley. From iconic technical descents to beginner-friendly family loops, the organization plays a major role in shaping the riding experience locals and visitors enjoy every day.But WORCA’s impact extends far beyond trail maintenance.  Over the years, the organization has helped foster a strong riding culture rooted in stewardship, accessibility, and community. Through trail days, youth programming, local events, rider education, and advocacy work, WORCA has helped ensure mountain biking remains an important part of Whistler’s identity and future.

Many of the trails riders know and love exist because of thousands of volunteer hours contributed by passionate community members. That spirit of collaboration and care is part of what makes Whistler unique, and it’s one of the reasons we’re proud to support WORCA.

As a local business, we recognize how important the trail network is to the health of our community, local economy, and outdoor culture. Supporting WORCA by sponsoring trail nights, hosting our annual Toonie race & Show & Shine, and supporting local races and events are some of the ways we help contribute to the long-term sustainability of the sport and the place we all love to ride.

We’re grateful for the work WORCA continues to do and for the volunteers, trail builders, and riders who help keep Whistler’s mountain bike community thriving.

The next time you ride your favourite trail, there’s a good chance WORCA had a hand in making it possible.  You can help support this organization too by purchasing a membership and coming out to their weekly events!
